Monday, July 9th 5:50 AM -- Auburn Police and Fire Divisions, as well as EMS Paramedics responded to a traffic accident on I-85 near Exit 50. At the scene, a 2013 Ford Fiesta collided with a 2018 Chevrolet 2500 pick-up truck from behind within the northbound lane.
The Ford Fiesta contained four people from Duluth, GA and slid off the road after the collision and hit a tree. The 27-year-old male driver and the 26-year-old female passenger withstood fatal injuries and were pronounced deceased on the scene by Lee County Coroner Bill Harris. 24-year-old male rear passenger withstood non-life threatening injuries and rushed to the Piedmont Columbus Regional Medical Center. 17-year-old male rear passenger withheld same injuries and was transported to EAMC. 52-year-old driver (from Tallassee) in the Chevrolet truck was not injured and was released.
Identities of all victims will not be released until notification has been given to next of kin.
