iHeartMedia and Deep Blue Sports + Entertainment launched the Good Game with Sarah Spain podcast on Wednesday (July 17) as part of the recently launched iHeart Women's Sports Network, with Capital One, e.l.f. Cosmetics and e.l.f. SKIN serving as founding partners.
Good Game will feature "stories, stakes, stars and stats to keep up with your favorite women's teams, leagues and athletes." The debut episode features Spain, a veteran ESPN reporter and columnist, introducing herself and her producers, Misha and Alex, along with their vision for the first-of-its-kind women's sports podcast and a sneak preview of an upcoming interview with WNBA legend Sue Bird.
"The goal of the show is to make a community for people who love women's sports (or want to love women's sports) by giving them interviews, conversations, debates and content that both informs and entertains them," Spain told Forbes while discussing her new podcast.
“I just want people to feel like it's a half an hour of their day, every day, that they are dropping into a community. It's not just something that they listen to – it's something that they're part of. They listen, they laugh, they learn; they feel like they are welcomed and understood.” Spain added. “I've been in the sports industry for almost 20 years, and when I started I was constantly battling stereotypes about women who love sports. In order to fit in, I had to be ‘one of the guys.’ I wasn't faking it, I was just being selective about which parts of myself came to the conversation and they were the parts of me that fit into the stereotypical idea of sports fans.”
iHeartMedia and Deep Blue Sports + Entertainment officially announced the launch of the Women's Sports Audio Network (WSAN) and its first slate of shows on June 18.
