Fatal accident Saturday night in Opelika under investigation

Lee County Coroner Bill Harris Reporting:

A two-vehicle head on collision Saturday night about 9:30 PM has claimed the life of 39-year-old Melissa Moss, of Phenix City. The accident happened on Alabama Hwy 169 near the Lee Road 133 intersection south of Opelika. Lee County Coroner Bill Harris pronounced the victim dead at the scene. She died from apparent multiple blunt force impact injuries. It appears that the driver of Moss’s vehicle was traveling south on Alabama Hwy 169 when he veered into the oncoming lane striking another vehicle head on. The drivers of both vehicles were transported by ambulance to hospitals for treatment. The driver of the fatality vehicle was transported to Piedmont Regional Midtown in Columbus and the other driver was transported to East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika for treatment. The extent of their injuries is unknown currently. The Alabama State Troopers are investigating the accident. Moss has been taken to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences medical examiners office in Montgomery for a postmortem examination.

The accident remains under investigation by the Alabama State Troopers and the Lee County Coroner’s Office.
