A two-vehicle accident on US Hwy 280 East at Lee Road 737 Friday afternoon at about 4:20 PM has claimed the life of 71-year-old Margie Hilyer, of Salem. Hilyer was pinned in her 2015 Jeep Cherokee and had to be extricated from the vehicle and was rushed via ambulance to East Alabama Medical Center where she died from her injuries at 5:53 PM. It appears Hilyer pulled out of Lee Road 737 into the path of a 2018 Ford F150 traveling west on US Hwy 280 when she was struck in the driver’s side. The driver of the Ford F150 was transported to the emergency room with minor injuries.
The crash remains under investigation by the Alabama State Troopers of ALEA and the Lee County Coroner’s Office.
