Auburn, Ala. - On September 9, 2018, at approximately 2:24 am, the Auburn Police Division received a call of shots fired in the 200 block of W. Magnolia Ave. Auburn Police Officers were already in the immediate vicinity of the call dispersing a large crowd. Officers confirmed shots were being fired and located several victims. A 20 year-old male from Tuskegee, AL was discovered deceased, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Additionally, four other individuals were found to be injured from the gunfire. Three victims were transported to East Alabama Medical Center by ambulance with non-life threatening injuries.
They are a 17 year-old male from Opelika, AL, a 19 year-old female from Opelika, AL, and a 21 year-old male Auburn University student from Hilton Head, SC. One 16 year-old male from Opelika, AL was also flown to Piedmont Columbus Regional Medical Center by air ambulance with serious injuries. Preliminarily, information has been obtained that an altercation occurred just prior to an exchange of gunfire that resulted in the injuries. The incident is being investigated by the Auburn Police Division and is not believed to be a random shooting.

The victim, who died as a result of a shooting that occurred Sunday morning, September 9th in the 200 block of W. Magnolia Avenue, has been identified as Evan Mikale Wilson, age 20 from Tuskegee Alabama. He sustained several gunshot wounds and was pronounced deceased at the scene by Lee County Chief Deputy Coroner Gene Manning. As previously stated a 16 year old male was taken to Piedmont Columbus Regional Medical Center in Columbus for serious injuries; a 17 year old male, 19 year old female and 21 year old male sustained non-life threatening gunshot injuries and were transported to East Alabama Medical Center for treatment. Wilson will be transported to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences State Medical examiner’s office in Montgomery for a postmortem examination.
Wilson’s death is being investigated as a homicide; additionally the assault of the other victims is also being investigated by the Auburn Police Division. There remains no indication that the shooting is random and occurred as a result of an altercation that escalated to gunfire, near the roadway in the 200 block of West Magnolia Ave. As the investigation is moving rapidly and arrest(s) are anticipated, no additional information is being released at this time.
